When Therapy Hasn't Worked The Way You Hoped

Many of the people who come to my practice are thoughtful, self-aware individuals who have already done a lot of personal work.

They’ve read the books.

They’ve spent years trying to understand their patterns.

They can explain exactly why they react the way they do.

And yet…

• anxiety still shows up in their body
• certain memories still feel emotionally charged
• relationships trigger reactions they wish they didn’t have
• the same painful patterns keep repeating

This doesn’t mean therapy failed.

Often it simply means your brain hasn’t had the opportunity to fully process the experiences that shaped those patterns.

How EMDR Therapy Helps

EMDR is an evidenced-based trauma therapy that helps the brain process distressing experiences in a way that reduces their emotional intensity and allows healthier beliefs to take root.

As a trauma therapist serving Ventura County and beyond, I use EMDR and other trauma-informed approaches to help clients address:

  • Anxiety and chronic stress

  • PTSD and traumatic memories

  • Childhood trauma and attachment wounds

  • People pleasing, self doubt and low self worth

  • Relationship patterns rooted in past experiences

  • Grief and major life transitions

Why Talk Therapy Alone Has Limits

Traditional talk therapy can be incredibly helpful for building understanding and support.

But trauma isn't only stored in thoughts. It is also stored in your nervous system. So when experiences remain unprocessed, the nervous system can continue reacting as if those events are still happening.

Trauma-focused therapies like EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) help the brain process these experiences in a way that allows the emotional intensity to decrease and new, healthier beliefs to emerge.

Clients often begin to notice:

• less emotional reactivity
• greater sense of calm and regulation
• increased confidence in relationships
• relief from long-standing self-doubt or shame
